What Arsenal fans are saying about Danny Welbeck after 3-0 defeat v Man City

Danny Welbeck is 27 now and should be entering the peak years of his career.

However, the injury-prone forward is in serious danger of failing to fulfil the huge potential that he showed as a youngster – and, as well all know, there are few things sadder in football than wasted talent.

It’s now three-and-a-half years since Welbeck joined Arsenal in a £16 million deal from Manchester United and he’s only managed to play 95 times during that period of time.

Welbeck has produced the odd standout moment for the Gunners – his dramatic winner against Leicester City during the 2015-16 campaign and his goal against United in the FA Cup during the same season arguably the highlights – but overall you’d have to say that he’s flattered to deceive when fit.

The England international has never scored over double figures in a season for Arsenal – he did it twice at Old Trafford – and currently has five goals in 26 appearances for the current campaign.

WHAT ARSENAL FANS ARE NOW SAYING ABOUT WELBECK
Welbeck started against Manchester City on Thursday evening and played the full 90 minutes but never looked like adding to his tally.

It seems an increasing number of Arsenal fans are losing patience with the versatile forward and there’s one thing in particular which is bothering them: his inability to stay on his feet.

Time and time again, Welbeck seems to lose his footing. He constantly falls over.

Here’s one example from last night’s game…

If ever a player summed up Arsenal, it’s Danny Welbeck. Capable of something really good, then falls over his own feet and ends up flat on his face.

WELBECK’S ARSENAL FUTURE IS SURELY IN JEOPARDY
One thing’s for sure: Welbeck’s performances have to improve if he’s to remain an Arsenal player.

The fact that he’s never managed to score more than four league goals in a season since joining the Gunners is, quite frankly, embarrassing.

He might argue that he’s never been played in his favoured position, but that still doesn’t excuse his shocking goal return.
